“Ethiopian Guji” from Clarity Coffee Roasters

roaster: Clarity Coffee Roaster; Bowling Green, KY
origin: Ethiopia
price: $15
tasting: 4/10/20
Clarity is a small craft roaster from Bowling Green, Kentucky, that started their wholesale operations in 2019. Ethiopia is the birthplace of coffee, and this naturally-processed coffee is a great example of the wonderful fruit-forward taste that can be found in Ethiopian coffees.
As a pour over coffee you can taste blueberries, or at less we did. This was one of the better coffees we’ve reviewed, and for a single origin coffee it had a nice full body. It really felt nuanced, with good all-around flavor. With some of these nice Ethiopian Coffees you can taste berries, like raspberries or blueberries and with this coffee there was a real firm note of blueberries. The interesting thing about this coffee is it’s roasted by an air roaster, with is a little different way to roast coffee, very similar to popcorn, but on a larger scale. We’re fans of this method this is a well done coffee that brings a nice flavor to the palate.
Coffee Rating – 91pts.
This coffee even made a good espresso, with a pretty strong acidic flavor to start. This is one someone might consider using as part of an espresso blend. It actually was a pretty good shot of espresso, with more of a citrus taste to it, than the coffee.
Espresso Rating – 87pts.

About our ratings – For both ratings (espresso & pour over) we’re looking at the flavor profile, along with drink-ability and balance. Reviewing the coffee as the espresso gives us extra insights into the nuanced flavors of the beans.
