“Equator Blend” from Equator Coffee and Teas.
roaster: Equator Coffee and Tea; San Rafael, CA
origin: Kenya, Sumatra, Colombia
price: $15.50
tasting: 11/18/18
This is a blend of three coffees, and is roasted by Equator, who is one of the country’s most well known specialty coffee roasters. Equator is from San Rafael California and are known for by their distinctive red bags with a black panther. We were surprised that this was such a dark roast, as it’s one of the darkest coffee we’ve reviewed. It has a more Northeastern coffee vibe than what we expected to come out of the Bay Area. Most of the coffee we get to review are single origin coffees, so if was great to see a blend.
While this coffee, rates higher as a black coffee, it would appeal to many as an espresso. It was sweet to start then worked its way to a dark finish with strong recalls of chocolate throughout.
Espresso Rating – 87pts.
This is a blend of three great coffees from some of the best coffee producing regions in the world. This is a dark roast, but it had a sweet start with a full body and notes of nutmeg. It was full and smooth, making it a perfect coffee for cooler weather!
Coffee Rating – 90pts.

About our ratings – For both ratings (espresso & pour over) we’re looking at the flavor profile, along with drink-ability and balance. Reviewing the coffee as the espresso gives us extra insights into the nuanced flavors of the beans.
