“Colombia Villa Esperanza” from Notion Coffee

roaster: Notion Coffee; Grandview, MS
origin: Colombia
price: $19
tasting: 4/3/20
Notion Coffee is a new roaster from Grandview Missouri, which is a town south of Kansas City and a little east of the Kansas border. They’re a small roaster and do not have a coffeeshop, so very much like our beginnings.
The coffee is a medium roast from the mountains of Colombia. While most people associate coffee with Colombia, we find that few specialty coffee roasters actually roast coffees from the country.
This coffee is a delightful and smooth coffee with a lighter body, that certainly would be good for the summer. It wasn’t exotic and had lighter more balanced flavors. There were notes of apricots, but more oranges.
Coffee Rating – 88pts.
This is a light roast single origin that would typically not be used to make espresso. However as an espresso it held really true the flavors of a coffee, with the orange / apricot flavor shining through. It actually was a pretty good shot of espresso.
Espresso Rating – 87pts.
Thanks to the team from Notion for the coffee, visit them at www.notionoffee.co.
About our ratings – For both ratings (espresso & pour over) we’re looking at the flavor profile, along with drink-ability and balance. Reviewing the coffee as the espresso gives us extra insights into the nuanced flavors of the beans.
