origin: Naranjo, Costa Rica
price: $16.25
tasting: 9/1/17
Oceana is a specialty coffee roaster from South Florida, near Jupiter Beach. Oceana has a lot of great coffees, and we’ll be posting another review from them soon. These beans come from the Naranjo region which is north of the Costa Rican capital of San Jose. They’re very versatile and taste great prepared in a variety of methods.
As an espresso it’s surprisingly sweet. You’ll tastes a strong presence of tangerines. It’s not overly sweet, with a nice subtle bit of acidity. We can see this espresso appealing to many, even non traditional espresso drinkers.
Espresso Rating – 90pts.
As a coffee it’s very bright and juicy, especially on the finish. We taste more floral and fruit notes, over the hints of chocolate. This is a good coffee, with unique flavors, and is a rare single origin that also excels as an espresso.
Coffee Rating – 86pts.

About our ratings – For both ratings (espresso & pour over) we’re looking at the flavor profile, along with drink-ability and balance. Reviewing as the espresso gives us extra insights into the nuanced flavors of the beans.
