“Ethiopia – Berry Collide & Colombia Yellow Tail” from Pintail Coffee
roaster: Pintail Coffee, Farmingdale, NY
origin: Colombia & Ethiopia
price: $7 (each)
tasting: 7/5/19
Pintail is from Long Island NY, and roasts only Arabica coffee beans sourced from farms all over the globe – including Brazil, Colombia, Africa and Indonesia. They sent us two coffees to review, and it happened that both coffees were pre-ground. Therefore we’ve only reviewed these coffees as pour over coffees, and not as espresso. It should be noted that you can order whole bean coffees from Pintail, and we always recommend grinding just prior to making. Our tip is, even a low cost grinder will work perfectly for drip and pour over coffees.
These two coffees were one of the best deals we’ve reviewed, at only $7 a bag, they’re less than half the cost of most coffees we rate. We’re glad to have found these coffees, as they are great pick-up for coffee drinkers on a budget. Both of these coffees tasted liked higher price coffees, and would compare well to what’s in their price range.
“Berry Collide” Ethiopia
The Ethiopian coffee certainly had some notes of berries and was a relatively light roast. Its flavor didn’t last as long as some coffees, but it certainly tasted like more expensive coffee.
Coffee Rating – 84pts
“Yellow Tail” Colombia
This coffee had a more chocolate-ly taste and it was a little bit fuller in terms of flavor, compared to the Ethiopian Coffee. This was a medium roast as well, but had a bit longer flavor that had a more complex profile. It’s one of the better Colombia coffees we’ve tried.
Coffee Rating – 85pts.

About our ratings – For both ratings (espresso & pour over) we’re looking at the flavor profile, along with drink-ability and balance. Reviewing the coffee as the espresso gives us extra insights into the nuanced flavors of the beans.
